Polish & Soviet Union children’s book cover illustrations

Some real favourites of mine from the Ukraine hoard here.  I guess a lot of these are children’s titles. Otherwise they’re obviously manuals about standard adult subject matter involving wolves in suits and men in psychedelic mirrors.

IMG_7313 IMG_7310  Interestingly the covers shown here with a more hand-drawn, sketched or cut-out aesthetic to them seem to be Polish, whilst the Soviet titles seeming to favour stronger type, bolder more minimal design and veer towards a polished illustrative style.

 However, the Soviet covers in this collection are notably more surreal than the rest (the children dancing in a psychedelic haze above and the winged gents with hats on below are fairly far out…)
